Use
Nose and ear hairs may be annoying but they serve an important purpose: without nose hairs, particles of sand or dust could get into the lungs, while in the ear, hairs prevent unwanted particles from entering the sensitive auditory canals. Carefully trimming the little hairs visible around the edges of nostrils or ears is a gentle and unproblematic way of getting rid of the hairs without interfering with their protective function. Plucking these hairs is not recommended due to the very sensitive mucous membrane in the nose. Rubis Duck scissors, specially developed for trimming unwanted hairs in the ears and nose, have rounded tips for gentle insertion into the outer area of your nose or ear without fear of injury. The drop-shaped tips also enable you to widen the nostril slightly so that you can trim the hairs more easily. The ergonomically shaped handle grips offer safety and comfort when trimming hairs. Even after many years, Rubis scissors lose none of their original functionality thanks to their high-quality materials, design and workmanship.

Material
Our scissors are not simply stamped out of metal, they are elaborately turned pieces of martensitic steel. This high-quality material, which takes its name from German metallurgist Adolf Martens (1850-1914), has two special attributes that are indispensable to the manufacture of really good scissors: it can be hardened to a high degree, which has a major impact on the high quality and long life of the cutting blades, and it is easily molded, which is important for the perfect functionality and good design of the scissors. Martensitic steel is acid-proof and rust-resistant. By glass blasting the surface and elaborately grinding the cutting blades we successfully close the steel’s pores as far as technically possible and reduce corrosion susceptibility to a minimum. We deliberately avoid nickel or chrome plating our scissors to rule out any risk of allergic reactions.

Manufacture
Values are important to us. In our products and in the methods we use to produce them. We have been manufacturing in Switzerland for over 60 years. With experienced and skilled employees, many of whom have remained true to our company for years. Very much in the tradition of Swiss precision mechanics, we manufacture precise and elegant scissors, every detail of which is made to last. All of our manicure implements are made by hand - and, in a final step, tested individually under a magnifying glass. Only products that pass this test receive the “Rubis. Made in Switzerland” seal of quality.

Design
Simple, bold forms are the esthetic mark of all Rubis scissors – embodying the concept of “less is more”. We patented their distinctive design under the Rubis Twist® trademark: each half of the scissors, crafted in half-round steel, twists 90 degrees from tip to handle. It is this organic movement of the steel that creates the scissors’ typical, elegant shape. Rubis scissors have won numerous international design awards.

The Rubis Duck scissors were designed by Fides Baldesberger.

Rubis. We believe in the small difference.

10 tips for perfect finger nails

  1. Softening
Soft skin is easier to care for. If you don’t like using a nail bath to soak your nails and don’t have any manicure lotion to hand, the best time to manicure your nails is right after showering.
  2. Brushing
Brushing helps clean dirty finger nails. But not only that. It also improves blood flow and encourages healthy nail growth. So it’s a good idea to brush your nails now and then. Incidentally, brittle nails are often a consequence of poor diet. If your diet is healthy, your finger nails will be healthy too.
  3. Exfoliating
Soft skin feels nice, and this goes for your hands too. Use an exfoliating scrub or a body brush once a week to soften your hands. It really helps.
  4. Pushing
Cutting is not necessarily best for your cuticles – pushing is better. Only the little pieces of skin that stick out and could cause the cuticle to tear should be cut – don’t forget to use specially designed cuticle scissors. One of the implements you could use to push your cuticles is our special cuticle pusher. And use a little nail oil from time to time – your cuticles will appreciate it.
  5. Clipping
Nail clippers are primarily intended for toe nails. However, when in doubt, we would advise you to use our special nail scissors to trim your toe nails. They are more precise and gentler on the nails. We would not recommend using clippers on your finger nails, which are more sensitive. Finger nails respond better to gentler treatment with specially curved nail scissors and glass nail files.
  6. Filing
Filing is the best thing for your finger nails. And the best nail files are glass files. Using them ensures that the sensitive nail does not become damaged. Glass nail files are gentle enough to avoid any risk of splitting. You should file your nails from the outside toward the middle.
  7. Maintaining
Nails grow. About two to three millimeters a month. Remember to trim your nails before they become too long.
  8. Moisturizing
Dry air dries out cuticles too. So don’t forget your cuticles when applying hand cream. The best creams to use are those that are unscented and do not irritate your skin. If you like the natural approach, you could use a rich oil like olive, almond or jojoba instead. Simply apply a little oil and massage gently into the nail, including the nail bed. The best time to moisturize is just before going to bed – the oil can then soak in overnight.
  9. Massaging
When applying hand cream, why not give your hands a mini-massage as well? Just rub your hands together as if you were giving them a really good wash. Then work the fingers and thumb of your other hand up and down each finger individually. And give your hands a good shake-down at the end.
  10. Relaxing
Between the thumb and index finger are helpful acupressure points. Simply apply a little more pressure there while massaging your hands and you’ll soon see how good it feels.
